Most city parks, like Encanto and South Mountain, are fine for a standard family or portrait session. A few spots have their own rules, though. The Desert Botanical Garden requires paid admission, and the Japanese Friendship Garden requires a paid photography permit. If your spot needs one, I will flag it before we book.
Sunrise and the golden hour before sunset both work well. South Mountain is famous for its sunsets from Dobbins Lookout, and Roosevelt Row’s murals photograph best in softer light. In summer we usually shoot early to stay comfortable.
Lush and green, Encanto Park. Desert and sweeping views, South Mountain. Bold and artsy, Roosevelt Row’s murals. Something special, the Desert Botanical Garden. Not sure? Send me a message and I will match the spot to your session.
Coordinated, not matchy. Soft, solid, mid-tone colors read beautifully against Phoenix’s greenery and desert, and simpler outfits let the downtown murals pop. Once we pick your location, I am happy to give more specific guidance.
