Superior is a bit of a drive east of the Valley, but it is one of the most beautiful, underrated places in Arizona to take photos, so it is worth it.
Boyce Thompson Arboretum is the crown jewel. It is the oldest and largest botanical garden in the state, with desert plants from all over the world and Picketpost Mountain towering behind it. The historic downtown has an authentic Old West mining-town feel, with brick buildings and murals under the cliffs of Apache Leap. And the desert and canyon scenery all around town is genuinely dramatic.
The nice thing about shooting near Superior is that we can pick a spot that fits you, instead of settling for the same park everyone else uses.
I photograph families, couples, seniors, and professionals out this way and across the East Valley, and I know these spots well enough to match your session to the right place and the right light. Want to see who you’d be working with first? Here’s a little more about me.
One thing I hear all the time is, “We’re awkward in front of the camera.”
Perfect.
Most of the people I photograph feel exactly the same way.
Whether I’m photographing a CEO who has five minutes between conference sessions or a toddler who has decided today is absolutely not the day they’re going to cooperate, my job is the same: help everyone relax, keep things moving, and make the experience feel easy.
You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to worry about where to put your hands.
I’ll guide you through the whole session while still leaving room for the moments that happen naturally. Those are usually the photos people end up loving the most.
I wanted to create something that felt completely risk-free.
So instead of asking you to pay hundreds of dollars before we’ve even met, I flipped the process around.
It’s a simple system, and after thousands of sessions, I know it works.
Headshots work a little differently because they require more planning and a consistent setup, especially for professionals, teams, and branding sessions.
The good news? This is what I do every week.
I’ve photographed thousands of professionals across the country at conferences, trade shows, and corporate events. Some days I’m photographing hundreds of people in a single day while keeping every image consistent, polished, and professional.
That experience carries over whether I’m photographing one executive, an entire office, or someone updating their LinkedIn headshot.
You’ll get guidance throughout the session, clean professional lighting, and a process that’s efficient without ever feeling rushed.
One of my favorite compliments is when someone says,
“That was way easier than I expected.” That’s exactly what I’m aiming for.
No confusing packages. No pressure to buy more than you want. No wondering what happens next.
Just a relaxed experience, a gallery delivered within a few days, and photos you’ll actually be excited to share.
Whether you’re looking for family photos, senior portraits, or a desert engagement session somewhere genuinely different, I’d love to help.
If you’re not sure which Superior spot is the best fit, send me a message. I’m happy to recommend a location based on the style you’re looking for and the time of year.
And if you’re coming from the Valley, I also photograph in Apache Junction, Mesa, and Gilbert.

Ideal for: Engagements, families, seniors, nature-lovers
Why book here: Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden, with desert plants from around the world, shaded trails, and Picketpost Mountain towering behind it. Genuinely one of the most beautiful backdrops in the state.
Good to know: There is a paid admission to enter, so it is best for a special session, and it is worth checking their photography policy.
Where: Main Street, Downtown Superior
Ideal for: Seniors, couples, vintage and lifestyle sessions
Why book here: An authentic 1880s mining town with brick buildings, murals, and real Old West character, all under the dramatic cliffs of Apache Leap.
Where: The desert and canyon around Superior
Ideal for: Dramatic desert portraits, engagements, adventurous sessions
Why book here: Towering cliffs, rugged canyon walls, and big desert skies. This is about as dramatic as an Arizona backdrop gets, especially at sunset.
Good to know: Some spots involve walking on desert trails, so we plan for the terrain and timing.
Boyce Thompson Arboretum requires paid admission and has its own photography policy, so it is worth checking before a session there. Downtown Superior is generally fine for a standard session, and some desert spots sit on public land that can have their own rules. If your spot needs anything, I will flag it before we book.
Morning and the golden hour before sunset are ideal. The arboretum is lovely in softer light, and the cliffs of Apache Leap and Picketpost Mountain glow at sunset. Spring brings wildflowers, and in summer we shoot early because it gets hot out here.
If you want something genuinely different from the usual Valley parks, yes. Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the mining-town-meets-mountains scenery are hard to match anywhere else. For a special session it is well worth the trip.
Coordinated, not matchy. Earthy, mid-tone colors look incredible against the desert, the gardens, and the canyon walls. It helps to avoid bright neons that fight the natural tones. Once we pick your location, I am happy to give more specific guidance.
